GIFs and emoji
How GIFs and emoji work in the widget, Slack, the dashboard and email, and how to turn them off.
GIFs
Visitors and your team can send GIFs from GIPHY: from the widget’s picker, the dashboard’s reply box, or Slack (/giphy or a pasted giphy.com link). They show up everywhere:
- Widget: plays as a small muted video, with a still image for visitors who prefer reduced motion.
- Slack: posted in the ticket thread as an image.
- Email notifications: an image, or
[GIF: title]in plain text.
GIFs are off by default for new widgets. Turn them on in the widget’s Features tab at Settings → Widgets, and pick a Content rating: G (the default), PG or PG-13. The rating applies to the widget’s and the dashboard’s pickers.
To turn GIFs off for one site even when the dashboard allows them:
Ticketping('init', { publishableKey: 'pk_...', features: { gifs: false } })A visitor can send one GIF per message. Searches go through Ticketping, so your site needs no GIPHY key.
Privacy. GIF images load straight from GIPHY, so GIPHY sees the visitor’s IP address and browser details. Mention it in your privacy policy if you turn GIFs on.
Content Security Policy. Allow https://media.giphy.com https://*.giphy.com in both img-src and media-src. See Security and CSP.
Emoji
Emoji are plain text everywhere, never images.
- Widget: the emoji button opens a picker with search, categories, recently used and skin tones. Typing
:and two letters suggests matches, so:thuoffers 👍. The picker’s data comes fromwidget.ticketping.com, so it makes no third-party requests. - From Slack: shortcodes like
:white_check_mark:and:+1::skin-tone-3:arrive as ✅ and 👍🏼. Custom workspace emoji like:partyparrot:have no standard version and stay as text. - To Slack and email: emoji are sent as they are.
Turn off the emoji button and : suggestions with Emoji picker in the Features tab, or features: { emoji: false } in code. Visitors can still type or paste emoji.
